Maria Zurita is a retired Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection Special Agent, Polygraph Examiner. She initiated her federal service with the United States Customs Service as a Customs Inspector in Eagle Pass, TX. Over her 23 years with the service she worked in Miami Seaport and Airport as an Inspector and then a Supervisor. She worked in the Charleston Federal Law Enforcement Training Center as a Spanish Instructor where she also participated in the Honor Guard. She was then selected to be trained as a Polygraph Examiner.
Maria is also a law enforcement survivor. Her brother Manuel was killed in the line of duty. He was a US Customs Service Special Agent, who succumbed to his injuries after a boating accident in January 1998. Maria’s participation ensures that we remained focused on the family and friends of the fallen officers.
